Shooo-ee. Only a few posts in and I’m already seriously lagging on keeping this blog up-to-date. Between the holidays, baby, cooking, cleaning, trying to maintain my own seriously neglected jewelry business (more on this later), and personal hygiene, and well, there’s little time left. I don’t know how you mamas of more than one do it!

Oh yes, and on top of that, baby went to childcare for the first time so that I could take a real (not mommy and me) yoga class. Which means that baby got sick for the first time. Oh goodee goodee.

Luckily, things are looking up in the sick department, but this morning I found myself walking past several piles of discarded clothing on my floor (which may or may not have small amounts of baby puke mixed in with them, as they are smack in the middle of the path to the bathroom sink, and baby was sporting the occasional projectile vomit while sick).

Anyway, I got to thinking: sometimes it’s hard to find the time to get to the closet, peruse the closet, find pieces that might work, put together an outfit, etc. Often I find myself grabbing things from what’s already on the floor and calling it good. So I thought I’d do a post on ‘how to put together an outfit on the random items of clothing that are piled on the floor.’ Classy gal that I am. So here’s a few options from my pile. (Oh yes, I know, it’s an extensive pile).

First, don’t be afraid to mix patterns and layer. This outfit might be a bit over the top in the pattern department, but I rather like it.

1. a floral shirt from Nordstrom Rack. It was on sale and only left in a size large, but I liked the oversized nature of it. So don’t be afraid to try things that aren’t your ‘size.’

2. Polka-dot cardigan (complete with stain). This cardigan from Forever21 has a stain that just won’t come out (said stain looks suspiciously like sweet-potato laden fingers), so I just grabbed a denim shirt from the pile (also from Forever21) and added it to the mix. Roll up the sleeves so the cardigan pops out the bottom, and no one will be the wiser.

3. Black pants/jeggings/leggings — whatever is in your pile.

4. Cute flats.

Second, when in doubt, belt it out.

1. Pajama-y maxi dress from Marshalls that I wore when pregnant. Do I sleep in this dress and then belt it to wear out in public? Noooooo….of course not. Or does the perma-crease in my hair from the sick baby ponytail give me away?

2. Topped with Free People sweater, belt and Fake Fryes from Target (baby not included).

Lastly, try pairing things that you normally wouldn’t. For example, I wouldn’t usually pair pink with pink, but I think it kinda works.

1. Jeans from swell.com

2. pink tee from Marshalls (by way of Free People). Often in the pile due to frequency of wear.

3. Moccasins from Minnetonka that often double as house slippers

4. slouchy hat from REI, scarf from World Market. Also often in the pile due to frequency of wear, and jean jacket from Target.
